Why Light Sport Aircraft? Why Santa Monica Flyers?We use one of the most modern, fuel-efficient and low-maintenance aircraft currently available. Everyone wants to be kind to Mother Nature; the Sportcruiser sips fuel at roughly half the rate of a Cessna 172. Additionally, the hugely reliable Rotax engine and simple aircraft design mean that minimal maintenance is the order of the day for the Sportcruiser. All of this translates to savings for you whilst compromising nothing in terms of quality.
What make Santa Monica Flyers different from all the other schools?
Santa Monica Flyers was started with one goal in mind: to provide safe, affordable and modern flight instruction to the Los Angeles area. If you look at the fleets of aircraft offered by our competators you will notice one thing they all have in common: they are old and expensive.
Wouldn’t you make more money if you used old aircraft? That new one looks expensive.
Yes we probably would at first, but we figured that in the long term new aircraft have lower fuel burn and lower maintenance expenses. These lower operating costs are the reason we can have a much nicer aircraft than all the other flight schools in the area and still offer competitive prices.
Ok so you have a nicer aircraft, surely we have to pay more as a result?
No. There are two ways of pricing flight instruction, you can make it incredibly expensive, sell a small amount and try to create an air of exclusivity OR you can try to make it as affordable as possible so that everyone can to learn to fly - Rather than trying to make a huge profit from a few people, we try to make a lot more happy customers who don’t hesitate to recommend us to their friends and family.
You only charge $50/hour for flight instruction the other schools charge up to $95; I don’t want a budget flight instructor!
While the other schools may charge more for their flight instructors they actually pay the instructors less. Other schools charge up to $90 an hour for flight instruction and they only pay the instructors as little as $16/hour. Do you really want a flight instructor who is paid less than a McDonald’s manager? We charge less for out instructors but we pay them more than any other school on the field. Its just one more way we try to keep your expenses down and make you more willing to review us positively and refer friends.
